Introduction
The Met Office Aeronautical Visualisation® Service (MAVIS®) is a web application that provides a tool for aviation users to visualise weather data. MAVIS replaces seven legacy services:
- Aviation Briefing Service (ABS)
- HeliBrief®
- Network Weather Resilience (NWR)
- OpenRunway™
These services are to be retired in March 2026, at which point MAVIS will provide the sole platform for users to access the information and weather visualisations available in these services.
To ensure users of MAVIS can intuitively access the weather data they need, MAVIS has access management control to customise the data available for specific user types. These are centred around the following user groups:
- General Aviators e.g. private pilots, glider pilots, balloonists
- Helicopter users (formerly HeliBrief®)
- Regulated organisational users (formerly NWR) e.g. flight schools, airlines
- Commercial organisational users (formerly OpenRunway™)
If you wish to enquire about the commercial aspect of MAVIS, please contact your account manager or email transport@metoffice.gov.uk.
